Approach
I have learned that there is a lot of shame and embarrassment and guilt around organizing. I always strive to be kind and compassionate; I do not want my clients to feel judged or pressured to get rid of things. I accept them where they are and help them to move forward. I am grateful that my clients trust me and let me into their lives...I truly have seen it all and heard it all. My goal is always to help my clients improve their quality of life and create peace of mind.
I usually work side-by-side with my clients to sort and make decisions. Depending on the situation, I may receive some guidance from my client and then work independently.
One of the hardest parts of organizing is figuring out what to do with all the STUFF that you want to get rid of. This is an important part of the service that I provide—both to help my clients and to keep things out of the landfill. In any given week, I might post items on our local free Facebook site, donate items to local organizations, deliver items for electronics recycling, textile recycling, styrofoam recycling, electronics furbishing, shredding, etc.
